This position works with student-athletes with learning disabilities in addition to other academically challenged student-athletes. The Learning Specialist's primary responsibilities include: assessment, academic skill development, individualized planning and developing of individual academic success plans, tracking individual progress, and teaching. Additionally this position provides comprehensive academic and career advising to assist student-athletes in identifying and meeting their academic goals leading to graduation and career development. Required Qualifications Positions require a Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year&#xxxx;for&#xxxx;year basis. Preferred Qualifications -Bachelor's degree in education, special education or related educational field. -Advanced degree in special education or education (teaching and learning) or related area. -Experience working with academically under-prepared students, specifically student-athletes within an intercollegiate athletic department. -Demonstrated success in developing and teaching literacy, learning strategies and study skills. -Demonstrated experience utilizing adaptive educational technology in a non-traditional setting. -Demonstrated ability to identify and assess individual learning styles; and then develop and implement Individualized Education Plans. -Possess excellent report writing skills and have the ability to initiate and complete projects with specific deadlines. -Work experience that demonstrates the ability to work with students, coaches, and administrators in a broad range of situations. -Work experience that demonstrates ability to work successfully with a diverse student population. -Experience that demonstrates strong computer literacy ( IBM compatible, competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, E-mail, Internet, and learning through technology) Monthly Salary Commensurate with qualifications and experience Additional Information Benefits Competitive benefits available hrs.wsu.edu/benefits .
